The still life series »sugar & plastic«, part of the cycle »same same but different«, addresses the abundance of sugar and plastic in our daily lives.
Inspired by historical still life paintings that traditionally depict natural materials and food, the photographs present contemporary reinterpretations using elements made primarily of sugar, plastic, or industrially manufactured products.
At first glance, the painterly compositions appear aesthetically pleasing—but upon closer inspection, they reveal a sense of disillusion: arrangements made of cheap, unhealthy mass-produced goods.
