I focus on aerial photography. The way I see the world has been determined by my studies in architecture. I analyse the essence of landscapes, and express this through abstract and formally harmonious images. Sometimes they resemble drawings with a multilayered message about the world. Sometimes they are like maps showing traces of human presence on the Earth.I like different landscapes. I look at traces of industrial damage and factory waste, at forests, fields and lakes. I watch people taking rest and natural catastrophes. I look at winter landscapes and see a portrait of civilization. When flying, I cannot build a relationship with people in the same way as it is done in classical photography - I cannot participate in what is happening. What I can do, however, is to evoke people’s emotions through symbolic and common places, shown in a radically aesthetic way. This beauty may be controversial, but it helps people to understand what they see.I use the language of drawing. I focus on civilization in every sense of this word. I guess that in a sense I still work as an architect.Kacper Kowalski, Gdynia, December 2013
