Valerie Habsburg & Daniel Gallmetzer

Valerie Habsburg and Daniel Gallmetzer worked together for the first time in 2013-2014 on their project "Phantogramme: Gespenster auf Papier" and since the two Vienna based artist are sharing a studio, collaborations happen quite naturally from time to time. In their current work "Beflügelte Erinnerungen" various essential subjects of both artist are incorporated. What is an image? How does it persist and how does it chance in our minds over time? Memories disappear, pop up once again, chance, connect, evolve. You might understand them better or see things differently at a later point of your life. You might create your own, which do not necessarily have to be "true", but can help you process traumatic experiences. Our memory is not working linear. Much like a swarm of birds, which has its own chaotic but beautiful dynamic.

In the series "Beflügelte Erinnerungen" the two artists combine and refine existing works. The torn photographic images of Valerie H. and the dragonfly wings of Daniel G. get rearranged, they grow togehter. Fragments of different private photographic archives are combined and brought back to life in form of vivid creatures of memory.
