Between 1966 and 1988 Michael Horowitz has mainly been working as a photographer and got on tracks of authors like Elias Canetti, Friedrich Torberg and Thomas Bernhard, actors like Attila Hörbiger, Oskar Werner and Klaus Maria Brandauer, contuctors like Leonard Bernstein, Herbert von Karajan and Karl Böhm, painters like Friedensreich Hundertwasser, Ernst Fuchs, Arnulf Rainer and many other personalities. He was called "a painter" of their portraits. “The photos open the observer the curious world of Austria. Waxworks of the Good and Bad. Ludicrous, touching, tragical and ironical portraits of men – in such a variety, that you can almost hope for a disappearing individuality” (author H. C. Artmann).
