Born in 1963 in Prague, where he continues to live. He was the personal photographer of the Czechoslovakian President, Vaclav Havel, in the years 1989-92. In 1992, he joined the Regina Maria Anzenberger Agency, and has worked as a free-lance photographer from the end of that year onward.
His photographs have been published in magazines and dailies including Le Monde, Libération, Esquire, Spiegel, Focus, Diners, Playboy, Interview, Stern, Geo, Los Angeles Times Magazine, New York Times Magazine, and DU Magazine. He has exhibited in Lausanne, New York, Munich, Budapest, Berlin, Vienna, Rotterdam and Warsaw.
For the photograph Black Market, Havana, he received Third Prize in the 1995 World Press Photo Contest. In 1997, he received a Cultural Contact Austria scholarship, and in 1998 he was awarded a fellowship from the Foundation for Czech Photography.
